Hurt me back taring the house offshot roof, so have done nowt of late. Today though, the front driving lights were fitted. This was a job that was left for my mate to do. The deal was he would fit them if I logged a tree up for him. Oh my poor back....and the tree was a lot bigger than I thought it was.
When fitting driving lights there is no current law on their final fitting position, so that means that they can be placed anywhere on the front of the vehicle. The only requirement is that they have an illuminated switch on the dashboard and that the driving lights only come on when the full beam lever is used, they must turn off when you switch back to dip beam.
Fog lights on the other hand when being fitted, do have a height and width legal requirement.
In the UK, the following applies.
The outer edges of the fog lights should be no more than 40cms from the outer edge of the vehicle. The max height from the ground to the top of the fog lights should be no more than 120cms.
A Relay is required when fitting additional lights. a 30 Amp Relay was supplied in the fitting kit.
To work out what size Relay (or amps) you would need, you add up the total wattage of your new driving/fog light bulbs.
eg. The lights being fitted to the Bus where 4, 55 watt bulbs which gives a total wattage of 220 watts (4 x 55 = 220) now divide the total watts by your vehicle voltage system, 12 volt battery equals a 12 volt system. 220 divided by 12 = 18.33 total Amps required. As the Relay in the kit is a 30 Amp Relay, this is more than adequate for the job.
